Florida Traffic Ticket Attorney Happy Client Story: Unpaid Tolls
Jorge has a Sunpass in his car for use on Florida’s toll roadways. Jorge uses his Sunpass every weekday on his drive to and from work. When Jorge’s credit card expired, he forgot to call Sunpass to update his records with the new expiration date. When the balance on Jorge’s Sunpass account reached $0 and Sunpass automatically attempted to replenish his account, Jorge’s credit card came back as invalid. Eventually, when Jorge went through the Sunpass lanes, it registered as an unpaid toll. As you can imagine, these unpaid tolls quickly added up because of Jorge’s daily trips to and from work.
Under normal circumstances, Sunpass would have notified Jorge of the unpaid tolls, and he could have taken care of them with a phone call. Unfortunately, Jorge had also failed to notify Sunpass of a change to his home address. By the time Jorge received his warning letters from Sunpass, several of his unpaid tolls had already been turned over to the court system as traffic tickets. In all, Jorge received sixteen tickets for evasion/failure to pay toll before straightening out the issues with his Sunpass account. If Jorge had paid these tickets, it would have cost him over $150 per ticket (or more than $2,400 total) and he would have received 48 points on his driving record, resulting in an immediate suspension of his driving privileges.
